Nature in the Algarve
The Ria Formosa Park is one of the most beautiful natural resources and protected areas of the Algarve, due to the variety of its ecosystems and singular location. With an extension of over 60kms, this incredible natural paradise starts in Ancão area (along the Vale de Lobo and Quinta do Lago) and ends in Manta Rota (nearVila Real de Santo António). It works as a shelter for migratory birds and rare species.
There are many areas worth exploring for those who enjoy hiking. A good starting point is the Environmental Education Center of Marim, Olhão, where there are organized easy hikes with a nature guide, and where you will meet the enormous variety of environments that exist in the Ria Formosa, such as salinas, freshwater ponds, Roman ruins, tide mill, etc.
